My visits and treatment at the West Ocean City Injury & Illness Center have always been completely satisfactory. My most recent experience is when my Wife needed care and was seen by Melissa Taylor. Both my Wife and myself were impressed by the sense of sincere concern, knowledge, and amount of quality time spent with us; far exceeding what is normal at the average healthcare facility; PCP office visit.

My daughter went to OC Injury Center for a simple TB skin test. She was told the charge would be $165, which she paid. Only after the test was administered did they tell her she must return in 48 hours for the results to be read. She is traveling out of state, so now she has to pay another clinic to read or redo the test — meaning the $165 paid here was completely wasted.

When we called to explain the situation, we were basically told “too bad.” No flexibility, no Zoom call to verify results, no credit toward a service she cannot even use. Absolutely no willingness to assist or accommodate.

We expected a medical office to be more transparent and more compassionate — especially when the service depends on a follow-up visit. Instead, we were left frustrated and out $165, with zero value received.

Would not recommend.

I had a deeply disappointing and concerning experience at this urgent care clinic. I came in with significant knee pain, swelling, and instability after an injury. I told the provider that I couldn’t bend my leg, that there was fluid shifting in my knee, tons of pressure in my knee, and that it felt extremely unstable — not just sore. I was barely examined. The provider looked briefly at my knee, saw only a small scrape and a faint bruise, and dismissed it as a “minor abrasion and bruise.”

When she began moving my leg, I became extremely lightheaded and nearly passed out. I had to ask them to recline the exam table because I was sweating and the room was going dark. Instead of concern or assistance, the doctor asked why I was feeling faint — and when I said it was because of pain and discomfort, she commented, “You must have a really low pain tolerance then.” This was inappropriate, dismissive, and unprofessional.

They eventually did an X-ray, told me it was clear, gave me a Toradol injection, and wrapped my leg in an Ace bandage. No brace. No follow-up recommendation. No recognition of the instability or the fluid I felt sloshing around on my knee - both of which I repeatedly mentioned. I was sent home with no real plan or support — despite nearly losing consciousness during the exam and clearly being in distress.

Out of desperation, I purchased my own brace and crutches. A week later, I saw an orthopedist who said I most likely dislocated my kneecap, have a ligament sprain or partial tear, and may have a bone bruise or chip. I have an MRI scheduled in three days and will likely need PT for several weeks.

I don’t expect urgent care to be able to diagnose every orthopedic issue — but I do expect to be taken seriously, to be treated respectfully, and to be referred for further evaluation if my condition is unclear or worsening. None of that happened here.

Adding to the confusion, two days later a prescription for ibuprofen was called in with no explanation or follow-up.

If you’re in serious pain, particularly with joint instability or potential injury, I would recommend skipping this location and going directly to a provider who will listen, investigate thoroughly, and treat you with basic compassion and professionalism.

I wouldn’t go to West Ocean City Injury and Illness for any injury that’s for sure.
