La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Ocean City

I’d say the only good thing about this hotel is the location. Upon arrival it didn’t seem bad, staff was really friendly check-in was easy. Halls were a bit messy, could use a good vacuum. I didn’t let that bother me much because I know it’s a busy place and front desk advised us they were short staff, I completely understood. Room looked decent upon entering, curtains could use a good cleaning as well as the floors. Blankets weren’t dirty but they were old and dated. Overall it seemed decent for the price we paid. AC worked perfectly fine, it’s eco friendly so if your balcony door is open then the AC turns off there is a sensor on the door; as long as the door was closed it stayed nice and cool. The hotel is pet friendly which was no big deal but nobody cleaned up after the pets, there was dog urine In front of the elevator all day and night and was still there in the morning (pet owners responsibility to clean after their pets, hotel staff shouldn’t have let it sit so long). I was enjoying my time there with no real big issues until the next morning I wake up, walk to the bathroom and turn the light on saw a bug dart across the floor and when I went to kill it realized it was a cockroach. Completely threw me off and ruined my vacation; emptied all my suitcases and bags, cleaned them all very well, shook all my items out and repacked and took them right to my car. Pool area was pretty filthy as well. I will never stay at a La Quinta hotel again this one completely ruined it for me. They seriously need to shut down; remodel and do a really nice deep clean and get a really good exterminator. I left a day earlier than planned I was uncomfortable and couldn't take another night in this place.

The staff was very helpful and pleasant at all hours of the day. The hotel is less than a block from the water and the beach was not crowded. Even though the street needs to be crossed to get to the beach, at this particular location traffic is reasonable as the street ends at a stop light. We visited late in the season which may have affected the quality of the room/facility from previous use, but there was ample evidence of maintenance needs throughout the hotel. Despite typical shortcomings, the staff was accommodating. Front desk dude who helped when an HVAC service alarm went off in the middle of the night and the cheery breakfast lady provided exceptional service. Overall it was a pleasant stay.

Where do I start, while we were checking several other guests came to the front desk due to not having any towels in their rooms. There was only one person working the front desk and a very long line. We got checked in and went to the fourth floor, the hotel is very dated (not an issue) and dirty. The smells in the hallway were strong with dirty laundry and trash bags littering the hallway. We had no towels in our room so I checked the sheets on what appeared to be a made bed. The sheets were dirty, body oil/lotion/sweat imprint and glitter in the foot area. There was absolutely no way that the sheets could have been clean, we got a fresh set from the front desk and then we were set. The thermostat only went to 68 degrees as a money saving feature, clearly the money that is being saved is not being spent on housekeeping. The tub was clogged up, and every time a toilet flushed near our room we heard a howling sound. We will not be back.
