Public Warning: Coastal Resort Sales and Rentals – Deceptive Practices and Breach of Agreement
In June, my family rented a property in Ocean City, MD through Coastal Resort Sales and Rentals. Based on our experience, I strongly caution prospective renters against engaging with this company.
The unit was advertised as an air-conditioned, oceanfront property with functional amenities and clean accommodations. What we encountered was a grossly misrepresented and arguably uninhabitable space:
-The air conditioning system was approximately 18 years old, dirty, and non-functional. Indoor temperatures reached 80°F despite every effort to mitigate the heat.
-We were unable to utilize the balconies due to persistent secondhand smoke from neighboring units—rendering the promised “oceanfront experience” inaccessible.
-The dishwasher was broken and contained dirty dishes on arrival. It was never repaired despite multiple calls. There was visible mold on the dishes.
-The garbage disposal was also inoperable until addressed days later.
-Interior doors were misaligned and failed to close or lock properly. Ceiling damage, peeling paint, and unsanitary deck furniture further contributed to unacceptable conditions.
-Vents were visibly contaminated, raising serious concerns about indoor air quality and mold exposure.
-We submitted multiple complaints. Coastal Resorts acknowledged the issues and offered a pizza as a token gesture (we thought that was a joke at first). They later promised a partial refund, which was never processed. This conduct reflects a pattern of negligence, misrepresentation, and failure to fulfill contractual obligations.
In our view, this company demonstrated a clear disregard for tenant health, safety, and basic consumer protections. We encourage others to proceed with extreme caution when dealing with Coastal Resort Sales and Rentals.

Stay at Century 1, unit 1008 in Ocean City MD was excellent. Property well maintained with fantastic ocean front views. Plenty of room for our family of 5 with older teens. Customer service of the woman in the office was also great and helpful.

Rented unit 243N in Wight Bay from Coastal Resort Rentals and it was simply the most disgusting unit I have ever set foot into. Upon entry it was evident that the unit had not been cleaned and there was a strong mildew smell.
I called the main number and was promised a call back from the manager of the 81st Street office. I waited the 10-15 minutes that was promised and then drove back to the offices to speak with the staff in person.
They refunded me the cleaning fee and organized a cleaning crew to come back and clean the unit and stated that I would be called once it was cleaned. Due to the fact that I was waiting for groceries to be delivered, I waited by the unit in my car. I saw the cleaning crew enter and exit the unit and waited another 10-15 minutes to get the call I was again promised ..... no call.
My family entered the unit and it had been cleaned, but still had a mildew smell. We walked around the unit and started to make the beds. While attempting to make the beds my wife found hairs on the bed mattress covers and dried blood stains on the provided pillows. One of the closets smelled of smoke and the other's floor was wet with stains and not able to be used. We also found mold on some of the spare pillows in the closet as well as on the wall of the closet.
It was after 6 so the offices were closed and we were stuck staying for the evening in this unit. In the morning, we opened the dishwasher to only find standing water and a smell that was evident the water had been there for many days or weeks.
I revisited the offices and requested a new unit as well a refund for the evening we stayed in 243N Wight Bay.
We were provided a different unit in Salty Sands and it was a very nice unit (the only reason for the 1 star ... honestly a 4-5 star unit) I was told I would get a call regarding the request for the refund. We are now 4 days since checkout and still no call.
This is a poorly run management group or at least the 81st St office is. In the future, I will rent via VRBO or Airbnb as this management team has proven to be a horrible experience that cost me and my family two days of our vacation moving, cleaning, and making many visits to the office due to the lack of returned calls.
