Coastal Kayak is the most experienced kayak company at the beach! This is our 19th year of providing entertaining and educational guided eco-tours and instruction with the most highly trained staff and best equipment in the area.

Our on-water location is the ideal place for launching for your adventure. We are located just north of Fenwick Island, Delaware (1 mile north of Ocean City, MD; 3 miles south of Bethany Beach, 15 miles south of Dewey/Rehoboth). The shallow, warm waters of our bay (Little Assawoman Bay) is a great place for beginners. We don’t have nearly as much boat traffic as the other bays in the area and, because of the shallow water, we don’t have a lot of tidal currents. And our bayside beach makes getting in and out of your kayak/paddleboard/catamaran a piece of cake!  Little Assawoman Bay provides many paddling options. Paddle south to the town of Fenwick Island to explore its lovely canalside homes. Paddle north towards Bethany to explore Daisey Marsh. Point of Cedars Island is 3/4 mile from our shore and is home to many different birds, or paddle to the landings of the Assawoman Wildlife Refuge with a picnic lunch and spend a few hours exploring its many cuts and ponds.

We booked two tours with this company in August, both turned out great. Burton island tour had tons of touch-in opportunities, which was super fun for my 6y old. He got to play with live horseshoe crab a little bit when we landed the island. Also our guide helped us identify the fox tracks, as well as the egg cases of whelks and skates, and broken egg shells. All tell a vivid picture of the wildlife here. We also saw ospreys, turns, gulls, herons, egrets, etc. Paddling in the tight marshland itself was fun too.

On the second day, we took the Assawoman bay tour, it was very peaceful and quiet, great for me, but a little boring for my son, as he needs to be very patient, without much interactions or actions, he liked the first day better. I enjoyed it anyways, saw a tern diving for fish, and bald eagle perched on pine trees, and osprey hunting in action. Awesome kayaking experience overall, definitely recommend it.

We did the Burton Island’s Wildlife Tour. The tour guides were friendly and knowledgeable. We saw a lot of wildlife and overall it was a great experience. However, my family is not very good at kayaking. The second tour guide had to hang back with my children in their kayak. I was in the middle with no guide in sight and the rest of the group was way ahead. So I missed out on almost all of the explanation and information from either tour guide. At one point the group that was way ahead was told to stick to the side because the middle was too shallow to paddle through. Because no one told me and my other child we ended up getting stuck. It was extremely uncomfortable to get out and had I tried to stand I would have sunk into the ground and had a potential emergency. The guide that was way ahead finally came back to help us get unstuck but we should not have been left in that situation. Please make sure that the groups stay together and no one is left unattended and everyone is given proper instruction on where to paddle.

Our group did kayaking and paddle boarding. Can’t say enough about how kind and helpful everyone at CK is. We had a great time and can’t wait to come back next year!
