Overall we had a very good experience. The oceanfront room had excellent views. The bar service out on the beach was a real plus.

The room needed a little work (rusty stove vent and refrigerator, and almost inoperable doorknob to balcony).

The bar service was excellent along with the live music

We had the breakfast buffet which was excellent. The hostess and waitress were need some improvement.

Plenty of great restaurants in walking distance or shoot drive.

I’m sure no one means to leave items behind when staying at any hotel but if you do stay at Castle in the Sand, don’t expect to get them back. I left a pair of shoes in my hotel room after I checked out and filled out a report the same day. It’s been over a week and getting the staff to give me a straight answer, whether they had them or not was impossible. Now, after about two weeks they say they do not have them. Whether it was the front desk filling out report after report that leads to nothing or housekeeping telling me they will call me back when the supervisor of the building where I left the shoes comes in - it’s the off season and still they couldn’t be bothered to communicate the status of my missing shoes. It’s obviously my fault for leaving them there but I cannot believe they didn’t find them given the fact that I contacted them mere hours after checking out with a description of what room I left them in. I have to accept that my sneakers are gone but I surely won’t be returning to Castle in the Sand the next time I’m in OCMD because of this experience.

My family stayed on 3rd fl in North building for 4 nights.
The view was great.
The room is same as described on the website and most of other reviews; It's dated, cleaness is just ok. not super clean. not super dirty.
Maid service was ok. It was little slow one time. When we came back after 3pm from beach the guy was still cleaning. So we had to wait in the corridor.
It's family friendly but I wouldn't recommand some family with small kids. I like they have a great outdoor restaurant but super loud music was on all the times. So my kids (4 and 10 yrs) didn't want to go that restaurant and coudln't fall asleep at night time. So we only picked up the foods once when we stayed thru lunch time in the beach. (I couldn't deliver food since my 4 yrs old girl didn't want to wait that long.)
Overally everything was ok. not a big problem.

But when I checked out I had an issue about additional charges. They said I owed money (total over $200 as far as remember) since I used in the restaurant. But I hadn't been to that restaurant for kids. when I ordered foods (not even ordered drinks) my husband picked it up after paying with his credit card. Some other people gave my room number and enjoyed food and drinks. Apprently people just tell their room number and they can order drink/food without any confirmation.
They kept confirming with bills if I didn't use those. so I explained everything... one time order food in beach...picked it up.... why.... even I had to remember food menus.... and called my husband if he has a receipt.......
Eventually the front desk people removed all those charges and they might try not to make me feel bad but I was insulted and upset.
They should have a better system.
