We considered staying here and went in to check it out in person before getting a room which we never do but I'm glad we did. The pictures online were heavily saturated / edited so it looked nicer online than it really was. But my main thing was when we walked in to check it out, it smelled exactly like my cousin's house we had to do an intervention on... We became very familiar with that smell over the years of being around him throughout his relapses. (He's 9 yrs clean btw :)
Now, I could be wrong, it could be the pool chemicals making that smell or maybe something else but it's a very distinct smell that I know and I've been a pool owner all my life, trying all the chemicals there are. It smelled like crack cocaine when we walked into that lobby. It was so strong, I hope the nice front desk lady checked it out if she noticed. I will say she seemed very friendly and all, I had no qualms with her, it was the building and the suspicious smell that kept us from booking.
It's very possible someone was even smoking IN the pool room now that I think about it.
Like I said take this with a grain of salt, but I chose to take my young daughter elsewhere considering we could get so much more atmosphere elsewhere for a little more money.
I only walked in and walked out but the vibe alone was too cramped and outdated for our family with a young kid. An outside paint job would how to tell if it is help, a bright color to make it look bigger would help too, with some big plants inside. Also makes a building feel safer when it stands out more instead of blending into the background.

For a boardwalk hotel, it was nice. The room was large, the beds were comfy, the pool was clean, and we had plenty of towels. We were there in the off-season so it was quiet and clean. It has very slow elevators so that might be a problem in the summertime.

Americana Hotel is outdated, stuffy and musty. Pool is small and the lights are dim. Elevators are slow, squeaks and jerks. Rooms have low ceilings. Bathrooms are small, has rusty plumbing and drains very slow. Parking is very tight Loud noise coming from Coastal Highway. Many nicer hotels on the boardwalk for a better price.
