Places to Visit Outside of Maryland’s Coast - Salisbury, MD

There’s an abundance of things to do, see, and experience on Maryland’s Coast. The beaches are beautiful, and the towns are a blast but the Eastern Shore of Maryland has so much more to offer than the coastline. 

If you’re visiting next door in Wicomico County, MD, the most prominent town of Salisbury, MD is not one to miss! Just a 30-minute drive down Route 50 from Worcester County and you’re there. Check out some of the top attractions to see while you’re in town!

  • Salisbury Zoo and City Park

Did you know that there’s a FREE zoo in Salisbury, MD just half an hour away from Maryland’s Coast? The Salisbury Zoo is in the beautiful City Park and is a great spot for visitors of all ages. Some of the animals living there include flamingos, eagles, alpacas, sloths, ball pythons, tortoises, bison, and wolves! Plan your visit and then enjoy a picnic in the City Park. Schumaker pond is right around the corner from the park, here you can enjoy fishing, playing disc golf, playing on the playground or enjoying a walk around the short trail.

  • The Ward Museum

Next to Schumaker Pond in Salisbury is The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art. The museum hosts many changing and permanent exhibits of antique decoys and art representing the community and wildlife of the Eastern Shore. There’s so much to see and do, it’s hard to fit it all in one day! Explore the exhibits then head outdoors to see the sculpture garden and nature trail. There are programs and events for all ages year-round to participate in as well. 

  • Pemberton Historical Park

Pemberton Park is 262 acres of land with a diverse variety of plants and animals, showcasing the ecosystem of the Eastern Shore. It’s a popular location for a casual stroll through many nature trails. The park is beautiful, especially in the springtime, and attracts many people for time outdoors, picnics, photoshoots, events—you name it!

  • Delmarva Shorebirds

Calling all baseball fans! Delmarva has its very own baseball team! The Delmarva Shorebirds are a Minor League Baseball team that is affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles and is based in Salisbury, MD. Watch these talented players at the beginning of their careers at one of their home games at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

  • Breweries

Salisbury definitely doesn’t disappoint for beer lovers! There are a variety of local craft breweries with delicious brews, food, and fun atmospheres to spend the whole day with family and friends. Evolution Craft Brewing is a trendy spot near Salisbury University with expertly crafted beers and seasonal food options you don’t want to miss out on. Gateway Craft Brewing is a small spot in town known for batches of experimental brews, keeping things fun and interesting. Burnish Beer Co. is a new brewery and restaurant at the north end of Salisbury. Their unique beer and one-of-a-kind food options have been the talk of the town since they opened!
