Ocean City's Breast Cancer Awareness Events

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! There are numerous events and charities going on in Ocean City to raise awareness and fundraise for the American Cancer Society.

“As an organization of nearly 2 million strong, the American Cancer Society is committed to a world free from the pain and suffering of breast cancer – and all cancers. We promote healthy lifestyles by issuing cancer guidelines for prevention and early detection, helping people avoid tobacco, and reducing barriers to healthy eating and exercise” according to their 2017-2018 Breast Cancer Facts and Figures.

Globally, breast cancer now represents one in four of all cancers in women. Show your support this month through local events!

A Perfect Face Day Spa will host its 21st Annual Pamper Yourself for Charity. For 21 years, Carol Withers and the entire spa staff have arranged this event in honor of Carol's mother, Elizabeth Chaney, who passed away from breast cancer in 1995. In hopes to continuously support research for a cure to breast cancer, the spa will hold raffle tickets for three different prizes. Tickets are $5 each, or 6 for $25. The three prizes are loaded with gift cards, hotel stays, rounds of golf and more! The drawing will be on November 8.

The American Cancer Society and Ocean Pines Pickleball Club will host the Pickleball Pink Ribbon Classic and Newbie Classic on October 5! Beginning at 8:30 am, the event will feature games, snacks, lunch, raffles, auctions, and prizes! Registration is $35/person with checks payable to the American Cancer Society.

The 21st Annual Pink Ribbon Classic Golf Tournament is on October 19 at the Ocean City Golf Club. Women golfers from the Delmarva area will tee up and hit the greens for this charity golf tournament hosted by the Eastern Shore Chapter of the LPGA Amateur Golf Association, which was formerly known as the Executive Women’s Golf Association. The chapter kicked off efforts for this cause with a week-long Pink Ball event recently held in August where the eleven leagues that participated raised $4,835.

Proceeds from this golf tournament will go directly to the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Programs. Tee off for 18 holes is at 9 am, and tee off for 9 holes is at 11 am. Registration varies from $75-$125 depending on holes and divisions. Prices include the Greens Fees and Cart, Gift Bag, Team Prizes, Prizes for Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin, Mulligans, Breakfast, and Lunch! Not a golfer? Lunch guests are welcome for $20!

The ACS Breast Cancer Walk, Making Strides of Ocean City, MD, will take place on Saturday, October 20. We all love walking for a cause! Registration for the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Walk begins at 7:30 am, and the walk begins at 9 am. Come to the Boardwalk at the Inlet to make your strides to fundraise and get involved! Register early and begin fundraising now. Their 2018 goal is over $300,000!
