Hidden Gems on Maryland’s Coast

If you’ve explored Maryland’s Coast you already know how much this beach town has to offer. We love all of the waterways, trails, towns, shops, and more. But there are some places that you can only define as hidden gems and we want to share them with you!

With so much to do in Worcester County, MD, maybe you tend to go back to your favorite spots instead of exploring others. Well, at Maryland’s Coast, our job is to help you do just that! Check out some of our favorite hidden gems in the area to visit the next time you’re in town.

Parks & Trails

Cypress Park: Located in Pocomoke City along the Pocomoke River, the downtown nature trail is a total of 1.5 miles with a fishing pier, gazebo, canoe launch site, and beautiful trees and birds.

Pocomoke River State Park: The state park along the river consists of two areas—Milburn Landing and Shad Landing. Both are beautiful swamp spots for fishing, birding, biking, hiking, boating, and more.

Byrd Park: Byrd Park in Snow Hill has beautiful shaded trails along the Pocomoke River for hiking or biking. It is also a pet-friendly trail for the whole family to enjoy.

Herring Creek Nature Park: Just off of Route 50 on your way to Ocean City, is this tranquil nature park complete with a pavilion, hiking trails, wildflower fields, and bird watching stations.

Chesapeake Bay Farms

Chesapeake Bay Farms is one of the best creameries on Maryland’s Coast! As the only dairy farm on the Eastern Shore, it’s no surprise that their cheeses, butter, and ice cream are the best of the best. Chesapeake Bay Farms has two locations, one nestled in the Pocomoke forest, and one in Berlin.

The farm proudly produces butter, cheeses, and ice cream for retail and wholesale. If you’re looking for a delicious taste of ice cream, you have to stop by and choose from one of their 20 flavors of ice cream available (although they have 40 total—so come back another time to try more!).

The Sterling Tavern

In historic downtown Berlin, MD this cozy restaurant will make you feel right at home with outdoor patio seating, plenty of bar seating & dining space, as well as two private dining rooms for your personal event.

The Sterling Tavern offers quality, affordable, house-made dishes such as hand-patted burgers and crab cakes, fried avocado with crab salad, maple bacon duck sliders as well as locally sourced oysters… plus, 12 beers on tap!

Windmill Creek Vineyard & Winery

The Windmill Creek family-owned and operated vineyard and winery is located in Berlin and is the perfect spot to visit with friends and family. Year-round, the venue is open for wine tastings and is an increasingly popular attraction during the winter months when they offer Igloo Village Dining!

Enjoy a personal heated igloo for your group to dine and taste wine in with music and twinkle lights all around. It’s truly a magical experience for all who visit. The Mariner House is the other dining location. The historic space is beautiful for fine dining, great local wine, and live music.

Seacrets Distilling Company Tour

If you’re familiar with the nightlife and restaurant scene in Ocean City, MD, you’ve probably heard of Seacrets, the popular bayside bar, and grill. But did you know that Seacrets runs their own distilling company where they craft alcohol used at their venue?

Seacrets Distilling Company is a 12,000 square foot, pre-prohibition-era distillery, erected in 2016, and is the first distillery to be built in Worcester County since the end of Prohibition in 1933. The wide collection of Seacrets Spirits ranges from rum to vodka, gin, and whiskey. Book a tour to get a first-hand look at the handcrafted spirits being made.
