Trimper's Rides To Celebrate 125th Anniversary

The smell of buttery popcorn and sweet cotton candy fill the air as you enter Trimper’s Rides on the boardwalk, welcomed by bright lights and the sound of cheer and excitement.

For 125 years, Trimper’s Rides has been providing amusement and entertainment to Ocean City, Maryland through thrilling rides within the park.

As one of the oldest continually operating amusement parks in the country, Trimper’s is honored to be recognized for its success and longevity by the National Amusement Park Historical Association.

To celebrate the anniversary, Trimper’s will hold a ribbon cutting on Aug. 17 at noon. The Governor, Comptroller and other local officials will be in attendance to acknowledge the past 125 years of family fun and success.

In 1893, Daniel and Margaret Trimper had no idea how successful the amusement park, consisting of two hotels and a few amusements at that time, would become. Trimpers added The Inlet Village Shopping Center in the 1980s, and Marty’s Playland Arcade in the 1990s.

The massive, antique carousel, a 1912 model, is a staple to the amusement park, classified as one of the oldest carousels still operating in the nation!

Expansion is important to keep an amusement park safe, fun and enticing to visitors, but since the 1960’s, Trimpers has increased their rate of expansion tremendously, adding a new ride or attraction almost every season.

As a growing business, Trimpers is still a family owned and operated company. Nearly 25 descendants of the original Trimpers family still own stock in the company, and fourth and fifth generation Trimpers continue the tradition of running daily operations of the park.

Not only have the Trimpers played large roles in the providing family fun and amusement to both locals and vacationers throughout the past 125 years, they have also contributed to Ocean City’s political and business aspects, taking on roles of Mayor, City Councilmen, County Commissioners, and more.

Come out to the August 17 ribbon cutting to celebrate an amazing 125 years with Trimper’s, a staple family and corporation in our town!
