Rain, Rain Go Away…We Want to Enjoy Ocean City Today

Rainy day blues seem to hit the hardest when you’re at the beach, especially when you’ve been planning your vacation to Ocean City for weeks (or even months). The good news is that while you may not be able to work on your tan or post up poolside with a refreshing cocktail, you can absolutely still enjoy all that Ocean City has to offer. In fact, you might find that a rainy day in Ocean City is a hidden gem in your vacation itinerary, yielding new activities and experiences you might have otherwise overlooked. From indulging in delicious lunch specials to shopping at the local hotspots, enjoying a round of indoor mini-golf or an afternoon at the museum, Ocean City offers a little something for everyone to explore on a rainy day:

Lunch at Liquid Assets

When the clouds roll in, chances are you won’t be enjoying lunch on the beach. Fortunately, there is a seemingly endless array of options when it comes to dining out in Ocean City, including lunchtime. Liquid Assets offers the perfect reprieve from a rainy day with fantastic lunch specials that are available all week-long. The L.A. Lunch Combo includes your choice to two items off of their lunch menu for just $9. More than your standard soup, sandwich and salad combo, Liquid Assets takes lunch up a notch with quality ingredients, an inventive menu, and downright delicious dishes.

Crab Feasts at Hooper’s Crab House

Crab feasts are a rite of passage in Ocean City; after all, it’s simply not a summer vacation in OCMD without at least one crab feast. Rainy days offer the perfect opportunity to carve out a few hours of your day for picking, feasting, picking, and feasting some more. Hooper’s Crab House knows more than a thing or two about crabs, serving up pile after pile of steamed crabs perfectly dusted with Old Bay. To boot, the menu is extensive, catering to the members of your group that may not be up for a full on crab feast.

A History Lesson from the Ocean City Life Saving Station Museum

Did you know there is a museum located at the southern end of the boardwalk? That’s right; the Ocean City Life Saving Station Museum is open all summer and provides visitors with the unique opportunity to travel back in time to learn about the heroic Surfmen of the US Life-Saving Service. The museum is also home to an array of exhibits highlighting the history of Ocean City. The nostalgic walk down memory lane in OCMD is well worth the visit, as is the fantastic collection of interesting facts, stories, and artifacts.

Movie Night!

…or afternoon! Movies are the obvious choice when it comes to rainy summer days, but they’re made even better by the fact that our local movie theater boasts THE most comfortable seating around. The Fox Sun & Surf Cinema on 143rd Street underwent a major facelift this past year, which included the addition of massive, uber-comfortable reclining chairs. Transformative is the best word to describe the new movie experience – an Ocean City activity you won’t want to miss, rain or shine.

Shop ‘til you Drop at Sea Quest

Retail therapy is the perfect way to combat even the gloomiest of weather, and since you are at the beach, it’s only fitting that you treat yourself to beach attire! SeaQuest is a local’s favorite when it comes to swimwear, with a vast selection of mix and match separates, bikinis, plus-size swimsuits, one-pieces and cover ups. That’s not all, swim accessories, footwear and clothing round out the mix with the latest fashions and styles.

Competitive Fun at Planet Maze

If you’ve got kids in tow than a rainy day is the last thing you want to endure while on vacation. Enter Planet Maze! Between the Climbing Maze and the Lasertron, your kids are looking at hours of fun. And if the rain happens to hold off, head outside to enjoy a few rounds of miniature golf on the Lost Galaxy Golf Course. There is an activity for every age at Planet Maze, including plenty of fun for the adults. Challenge your family to some competitive fun with Lasertron or in the arcade. Rainy days have never been better.

A Round of (Indoor) Mini Golf

When it’s pouring down rain, sometimes the best option is to pick one spot to enjoy for a few hours, which is why Old Pro Golf is the ideal place to ride out the storm. With TWO indoor courses available – one on 66th Street and the other on 136th Street – there is plenty of fun to be had. Enjoy a round of mini golf at the Undersea Adventure on 66th Street or test your putt-putt skills at the Safari Village on 136th Street. Finish off your afternoon in the arcade and see how many tokens you can rack up. Before you know it, the sun will be back out!
